Bots
A "bot" (short for "robot"), also known as an "agent", is an internet
script which performs a function using a programme on a remote computer
- i.e., the computer which hosts the website on which the bot is displayed,
or sometimes a third party computer. Bots differ from Java pr JavaScript
programmes or applets, and Perl or CGI scripts, which perform a function
on the local computer - i.e., your computer. Common bots include search
engines, translation interfaces, and currency conversion utilities. A list
of the bots used throughout Lex Scripta appears at:
.
The following sites provide bot scripts which may be used for your own
website, such as to create your own, site-specific, search engine.

JavaScript
JavaScript is a basic scripting language which allows web authors to
create dynamic pages that react to user interaction. JavaScript is based
loosely on the Java programming language, but JavaScript programmes
are contained within the HTML code of the web page and are interpreted
by the browser, whereas Java programs have to be downloaded separately
from the HTML page. The On-Line Calculators provided on Lex Scripta
are powered by JavaScript programmes; see -
.
The following sites provide JavaScript programmes which may be used for
your own website, and tutorial information about JavaScript use and programming.
